Summary:
The Credit Analyst I provides support in determining the creditworthiness and risk profile of an individual or business by analyzing financial data and assisting in underwriting decisions. This entry-level role is designed to build foundational skills in financial analysis, risk assessment, and commercial lending practices. Under close supervision, the analyst contributes to the preparation of credit requests, renewals, and modifications, while developing a working knowledge of the Bank’s credit policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are some of the duties that may be assigned and may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. - Assisting with financial statement spreading and basic financial analysis.
- Prepare initial drafts of credit requests, renewals, and modifications under guidance.
- Support the completion of annual reviews and covenant tests.
- Conduct preliminary industry and client research to support credit decisions.
- Evaluating client financial status by producing financial ratios using spreadsheet software.
- Support risk assessments and provide analytical support in underwriting commercial credit facilities.
- Develop foundational knowledge in collateral valuation, including an understanding of appraisal reports, internal valuation processes, and environmental risk considerations.
- Assist with portfolio monitoring by performing covenant checks and annual reviews and contributing to risk assessment.
- Develop foundational knowledge of the Bank’s commercial loan policy, credit procedures, and risk frameworks.
- As skills develop, begin underwriting small, simple, or renewing credit facilities.
- Operates in a team-focused, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities.
- Works on projects of limited complexity in a support capacity.
- Receives close supervision and guidance from senior analysts and credit officers.
- Demonstrate an effective understanding of business, economic, and industry risk.

Qualifications:
These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some variation from these guidelines:
- Entry-level position; candidate with six months of banking experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field preferred; candidates with relevant coursework may also be considered.
- Familiarity with tax returns and compiled, reviewed, or audited financial statements is preferred.
- Basic proficiency in financial statements spreading using Moody’s or similar software.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office and general computer use.
- Ability to effectively manage competing deadlines in a high-pressure work environment, with varying degrees of supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to notice discrepancies in financial data.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Computer and Office Equipment Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
