General Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Creative Services, the Junior Creative Associate is a dual-discipline, entry-level role within the Creative Services team. Working in collaboration with Marketing, Communications, and Creative Services staff, the Junior Creative Associate will conceptualize, design, write, and produce customer-facing and internal print and digital materials for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (external customers), the Communications Department, and other DART Departments (internal clients). This role is designed for an emerging creative who brings both visual design ability and strong writing skills, and is eager to develop across both disciplines in a professional, fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIL
Assist in developing strategic concepts and produces finished artwork for a variety of print and digital projects — including advertisements, collateral, social media, presentations, digital display assets, and email templates — that market DART products and services.
Assist in writing and editing copies for marketing materials including advertisements, social media, email campaigns, website content, brochures, and customer-facing communications, producing content that is accurate, on-brand, and appropriate for target audiences.
Continually collaborates with the internal team throughout the brainstorm, concept, design, and review processes to ensure seamless execution of typography, composition, and messaging across all deliverables.
Proofs and edits designed and written materials for consistency in typography, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and brand alignment before submission.
Ensures brand consistency — in both visual and verbal identity — throughout all projects by maintaining accuracy and attention to detail across a variety of projects simultaneously.
Prepares and presents design and copy concepts to Creative Services leadership and the Marketing Services team.
Responds quickly to creative challenges and feedback, and proactively anticipates needs for different teams and projects.
Prioritize and time-manage multiple projects efficiently to ensure all work is delivered on schedule and any challenges are addressed ahead of time.
Demonstrates good file management by adhering to DART storage and archival guidelines.
Maintains knowledge of design, copywriting, and industry trends as well as emerging tools in the marketing and creative environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Advertising, Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
Two (2) years of professional experience in graphic design, copywriting, content creation, or a hybrid creative role; strong academic portfolio considered.
Proficiency in MAC software applications to include Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Adobe Creative Suite CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) or related software.
Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
Knowledge of fonts and typography, color calibration, the CMYK printing process, and preparing digital files for print vendors, promotional merchandise, and digital and mobile devices.
Ability to write clearly and succinctly across a variety of communication settings and styles; can produce copy that is on-brand and has the desired effect on target audiences.
Ability to pick up on technical and creative concepts quickly; learns new skills, software, and industry knowledge with initiative and applies them effectively.
Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; establishes and maintains effective relationships and gains trust and respect.
Ability to quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; seen as a team player who encourages collaboration and can be candid with peers.
Ability to use rigorous logic and sound judgment to solve design and communications challenges; looks beyond the obvious and does not stop at first answers.
Portfolio of work demonstrating both design and writing ability required; examples may include professional, internship, or academic projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
