The Opportunity

The Junior Consultant – Anaesthesiology delivers high-quality peri-operative anaesthetic care, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management and post-operative support, with emphasis on Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The Anaesthetist will work closely with the OB/GYN, paediatrician, and operating theatre staff. He/she will be the supervisor and leader of the surgical activities and will be in direct communication with the operating theatre team and the rest of the clinical team of the inpatient unit. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role ensures patient safety through tailored anaesthesia plans, evidence-based protocols and participation in quality and safety initiatives.

The post-holder also supports clinical governance through supervision and training, contributes to research and learning, and collaborates across departments to support emergency and routine care. Additionally, the position oversees safe OT operations, including pharmacy and equipment management, documentation and reporting, while upholding safeguarding, IPC and confidentiality standards in line with Save the Children and national guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 1-year experience practising independently as an anaesthesiologist (i.e., does not require supervision).
  • MBBS with Diploma in Anesthesiology or equivalent with a minimum of 1-year practical experience after completion of the diploma in any reputed Hospital and clinic.
  • Evidence of in-date training in advanced life support (adult, paediatric and neonatal) or equivalent.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach relevant staff.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a department, clinical lead
  • Proven experience of delivering service improvement, managing change and collaborating with own or another organisation.
  • Has a responsive, solution-focused approach to addressing issues and barriers.
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to improve performance and make a difference by focusing on goals.
  • Organisational representation in various technical forums, if needed.
