Role Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

• Support the planning, delivery, and administration of highway construction and rehabilitation projects.
• Assist with project coordination to help ensure work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, municipalities, and stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress and maintain project documentation, including schedules, risk logs, and status reports.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing consultant terms of reference, proposals, designs, and tender documents.
• Support the delivery of municipal cost-share projects, including stakeholder engagement and agreement preparation.
• Assist with contract administration, construction monitoring, and site inspections.
• Review contractor submissions, Environmental Construction Operations (ECO) Plans, and Traffic Accommodation Strategies to support safe and compliant project delivery.

Qualifications

Required:

• University graduation in Engineering or Applied Science or Geology or Geophysics, or graduation from a recognized School of Architecture. No experience required. Eligible for in-training status with the APEGA or for membership with the AAA.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets and Requirements:

• 1 to 2 years of related experience in transportation, civil, or construction engineering is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of highway planning, design, construction processes, and project management principles.
• Understanding of construction practices, contract documents, specifications, and contract administration.
• Familiarity with highway design standards, departmental guidelines, and construction manuals.
• Basic knowledge of environmental requirements and right-of-way acquisition processes.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to make sound decisions and resolve issues in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
