Oregon City, Oregon rests on the Willamette River southeast of Portland. It is part of the Portland Metropolitan Area (along with Beaverton, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA). Oregon City was the first capital of Oregon prior to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. Before settling on Salem in 1864, the capital was moved several times to several different cities. It is also the end point of the Oregon Trail. Oregon City has the only “vertical street” in the nation, Elevator Street. Position Highlights
The Clackamas County Circuit Court is hiring a Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Jeffrey Jones.
In this role…
Much of your day is spent working alongside the Judicial Assistant to provide moderate to complex clerical support to Judge Jeffrey Jones. You will process and ensure accuracy of documents or records (both hard copy and electronic documents) and provide support in the courtroom during criminal, civil, or family law matters. You will process court documents in accordance with legal requirements and court procedure, maintain the judge’s library, and perform limited legal research at the judge’s direction. You will determine, if necessary, next steps on certain case types.
Part of your duties will include managing juries. You will serve as liaison between jurors, court and counsel for exhibits, forms, instructions and questions. Lastly, you will assist litigants and attorneys in using the court system and inform them of court procedures, the status of cases, and the court calendar.
Occasional legal research may be requested to be performed.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must be enrolled in a Juris Doctor degree program at an accredited law school OR be in possession of a Juris Doctor degree.
Note: Preference may be given to clerical and/or administrative work experience in a professional office or business setting.
