Job Description

This is a career law clerk position for a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Typical duties consist of but are not limited to:

  • Research legal data pertinent to caseload of Justice.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret lower court record(s), agency briefs, and/or appellate court briefs.

  • Search for, interpret, and apply statutes, court decisions, and other legal authorities on points of law involved in the preparation of legal rulings.

  • Prepare drafts of opinions and orders.

  • Proofread and review circulating opinions.

  • Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; AND,

  • At least eight years of experience as an appellate judicial clerk OR eight years private practice experience involving significant legal research and writing responsibilities, preferably in appellate courts.

Additional Qualifications/Preferences

  • Knowledge of the Unified Judicial System of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of practice.

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and practices of legal research.

  • Superior communication, interpersonal, research, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Ability to understand and interpret constitutional provisions, statutes, administrative regulations, and precedents.

  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.

Starting salary: $91,890 - $110,594
