Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (Air Force JROTC)
Location: Skyview High School
BEA Salary Schedule

Full Benefits, TRS Retirement, Health Insurance; 1 Discretionary Days; 192 Work Days

The Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) serves as the department head and lead instructor for the Air Force JROTC program. The SASI is responsible for delivering aerospace science and leadership education, managing cadet corps operations, maintaining compliance with USAF and school district regulations, and fostering citizenship, character, and community service among high school students.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Military Service: Retired Active Duty, Reserve, or Air National Guard officer (Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, or Captain) with a minimum of 20 years of active service.
  • Certification: Official certification from Headquarters AFJROTC (Holm Center) prior to hire.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required from an accredited university; Master's degree preferred.
  • Teaching Credential: Ability to obtain local state JROTC teacher certification/licensure.
  • Background Check: Must pass FBI fingerprint checks, state background screenings, and district hiring criteria.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lead physical training, participate in field events, and maintain USAF professional appearance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Deliver AFJROTC curriculum covering aerospace history, science of flight, space exploration, leadership fundamentals, civics, and health/wellness.
  • Establish structured, engaging lesson plans aligned with AFJROTC Headquarters guidelines and district academic standards.
  • Assess cadet academic performance, leadership progression, and physical fitness development.

Program Administration & Cadet Operations

  • Serve as the primary officer responsible for unit administration, budgeting, inventory control, and Air Force audit readiness.
  • Manage the cadet chain of command, mentoring cadet officers in military staff functions, project planning, and peer leadership.
  • Oversee uniform issuance, accountability, maintenance, and regular inspection standards.
  • Maintain student records in the WINGS (Web-based Instructor Management and Cadet System) database.

Co-Curricular & Extracurricular Leadership

  • Direct Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs), including Drill Team, Color Guard, Raider Team, Rocketry, and Marksmanship.
  • Plan and supervise community service projects, field trips, Military Balls, and Cadet Leadership Courses (CLC).
  • Accompany cadets on out-of-district competitions and curriculum-in-action (CIA) educational visits.

School & Community Engagement

  • Act as a liaison between the school administration, USAF JROTC Headquarters, parents, and civic organizations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school duties, and cross-departmental initiatives as required by school leadership.
  • Build local partnerships to promote community involvement and cadet volunteer opportunities.
