Job Description

Are you an organized and detail-oriented professional with an interest in mechanical systems and facility operations? The Multi-Domain Solutions (MDS) division is seeking a Junior Preventive Maintenance Mechanical Technician to support preventive maintenance activities for a wide range of mechanical systems within a complex facility.

This entry-level role provides hands-on experience maintaining equipment such as HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units (AHUs), motors, pumps, piping systems, and building automation systems. Working under the guidance of senior technicians and facility leadership, the technician will assist in ensuring system reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe and efficient facility operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical systems and equipment in accordance with industry and manufacturer standards.
  • Support troubleshooting and basic diagnostics of HVAC systems, chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, motors, and related infrastructure.
  • Inspect equipment and assist with calibration, repair, and replacement of components as directed.
  • Use building automation systems (BAS) under supervision to monitor system performance and report potential issues.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians, engineers, and facility staff to support daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and findings using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Follow established preventive maintenance procedures and suggest improvements as experience grows.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, operational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to build technical expertise.

Basic Qualifications

  • TS/SCI w/ Poly Clearance is required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a technical training program in mechanical systems, automotive repair, HVAC, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience assisting with inspection, repair, or maintenance of mechanical systems or vehicles.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical components, cooling systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, or electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with using common diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, pressure gauges, hand and power tools).
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical manuals, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and comply with quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or coursework in HVAC, automotive technology, industrial maintenance, or related discipline.
  • Internship, apprenticeship, or vocational training experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Familiarity with CMMS or other maintenance tracking systems.
  • Basic knowledge of DOT regulations or other compliance standards for fleet or facility operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
