Job Title: Jr. Estimator

About the Opportunity

Our client, a growing utility construction company, is seeking an Jr. Estimator to join their team. This is a succession planning role, designed to ensure successful knowledge transfer. The successful candidate will be mentored directly and gradually take on increasing responsibilities, with a clear path for promotion.

The Assistant Estimator will report directly to the current Senior Estimator and collaborate closely with a team including project managers and field foremen. The role will focus primarily on estimating and supporting Utility projects, with potential to expand into other areas of the business over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and reviewing cost estimates for utility and civil construction projects.
• Work closely with the senior estimator to learn processes, methodologies, and client requirements.
• Support project managers and field teams with accurate estimating data and project details.
• Participate in site visits across Central NY to gather project information and verify conditions.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel and construction management software to maintain estimates, budgets, and documentation.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure knowledge transfer and support succession planning.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

• Degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering (construction-focused).
• 0-5 years of relevant experience (open to recent graduates).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn quickly, retain information, and adapt to new processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; willingness to learn.
• Willingness to travel locally (within Central NY, sometimes up to 2.5 hours one way), with rare overnight stays.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team-oriented mindset and ability to accept constructive feedback.

Preferred:

• Experience in civil construction or utility-related projects.
• Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Timberline, HeavyBid, etc.).
• Experience with general contracting or civil portions of building projects.
• Adaptability in a dynamic, changing environment.

Location

This role is based out of the Syracuse office. The Assistant Estimator is expected to work in-office when not traveling to job sites. This is not a remote or hybrid role. A company vehicle is provided for job site visits.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $65,000 – $80,000 depending on experience and credentials.
• Company vehicles are provided for job site travel, with a gas card included.
• Cell phone provided or stipend for personal phone use.
• All travel expenses covered by the company.
• Clear path to promotion within 2.5 years as part of succession planning.
