Job Description

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and building electrical infrastructure. Performs electrical installations under the direction of the Electrical Master of Record. Replaces electrical equipment and electrical system components. Includes performing diagnostics and repair for the HVAC shop, Mechanical/Plumbing shop, Electronic shop and Conveyance shop. Provides rotating 24/7 on-call support for electrical infrastructure and building equipment, i.e. frequency drives, networked lighting systems and emergency power distribution. Proficient with digital multimeters, power analyzers, circuit tracers and other test equipment. Must provide proper evaluation and repair of electrical distribution and lighting to provide a safe environment for staff and patients. Performs testing of emergency and life safety systems to be compliant with National Electrical Code and The Joint CommissionCMS. Work time will be recorded electronically by employee in a maintenance software program to substantiate required compliance testing is completed. Performs all duties following safe electrical work practices, must be compliant with Lock-Out Tag Out, Confined Space and Arc Flash programs. Must complete Preventive Maintenance (PM) per policies and/or procedures. Electrician will take Minnesota state required training to maintain their electrical license. Requires the availability to work overtime as required, overtime may be unscheduled. May be required to perform activities outside of their job classification.

A two-year technical degree or an associate degree in electrical systems, construction or similar program focused on the maintenance, installation and operation of building electrical systems or four years electrical apprenticeship training. Electrician must have 5 years of experience with power distribution, lighting, motor and electrical controls. Electrical maintenance experience in a health care setting preferred. Electrician must be able to troubleshoot and solve electrical circuit problems independently on energized circuits. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, organize jobs and work collaboratively with other employees is required. Understanding of safe electrical work practices. Person must be able to read and draw electric schematics and have a working knowledge of the National Electric Code NFPA 70 and applicable safety standards. Electrician must have good human relation skills. Be able to work independently on most assignments. The ability to use proper precaution to avoid potential exposure to chemical vapors, infectious agents, hazardous substances, rotating machinery, fall hazards, confined space and electrical shock hazards. Minnesota Class “A” Journeyworker Electricians license or an “A” Master Electrician license is required. Minnesota driver's license required.
