Journeyperson Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

The Journeyperson Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.

  • Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
  • Diagnose equipment problems
  • CVIP Inspections
  • Respond to breakdowns
  • Spring and winter maintenance
  • Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
  • Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Ticket (Autotmotive, Heavy Duty)
  • Must possess own tools for the job
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • 2 – 5 years related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
  • Exposure to working on diesel, propane, and gasoline engines
  • Experience with automatic transmissions
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • Computer proficiency

Remuneration

  • $42.50 per hour
  • Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
  • Employee Benefits Plan (after 3 month probation)
  • Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
  • Annual Tool and Boot Allowance (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
