Job Description

Forbes Bros Ltd. is currently seeking an experienced Journeyman Powerline Technician – Transmission & Distribution (T&D) to join our team in Kakabeka, ON on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a field-based role requiring travel to various work sites across Ontario. The position follows a 21/7 rotation, working 6 days on and 1 day off per week

The Journeyman Powerline Technician (PLT) will assist in the construction and maintenance of distribution powerlines. The Journeyman Lineman will have a valid Journeyperson certificate and previous experience in the distribution or transmission industry as a Journeyman Lineman. The candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of distribution powerline construction, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and share our core value of " we work safe."

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair high- and low-voltage distribution electrical grids.
  • Troubleshoot and repair overhead distribution lines.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and modify high- and low-voltage distribution electrical systems.
  • Maintain interior, exterior, overhead, and underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Perform all aspects of new distribution powerline construction.
  • Frame wood and steel structures for distribution powerlines.
  • Complete all aspects of overhead conductor stringing.
  • Perform cable pulling in civil environments.
  • Assist with the setup of puller and tensioning sites.
  • Operate various equipment used in the construction and maintenance of distribution powerlines.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including PPE usage, permitting, and safe work practices.
  • Participate in incident reporting, safety observations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Lead by example in promoting a positive safety culture within the crew.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with specifications, drawings, and client requirements.
  • Identify non-conforming work and communicate issues to supervision for timely resolution.
  • Assist in preparing work areas for inspections and client walkdowns.
  • Work safely and contribute to continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and production meetings.
  • Participate in tailboard meetings.
  • Support the training and development of new workers and apprentices.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Red Seal certification in the powerline trade from an accredited trade school, or equivalent education and industry experience.
  • General knowledge of construction, operation, and maintenance methods and procedures.
  • Commitment to working safely, with the ability to recognize hazards and apply the hierarchy of controls to mitigate risks on site or in the office.
  • Strong listening, problem-solving, and time management skills, with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, and to work frequent overtime and weekend hours to meet project schedules and business needs.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions and environments, including heavy lifting.
