What you’ll do

• Splicing & Prep: Perform high-quality fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multi-mode optical fibers (loose tube and ribbon). Prep, route, and manage fibers within splice closures, pedestals, and Fiber Distribution Panels (FDP).
• Testing & Troubleshooting: Operate advanced testing equipment, including OTDRs, Optical Loss Test Sets (OLTS), Visual Fault Locators (VFL), and optical power meters, to verify splice quality, troubleshoot outages, and ensure insertion loss falls within acceptable parameters.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Accurately read, follow, and redline complex engineering schematics, construction blueprints, and splice matrices.
• Network Maintenance: Perform emergency restoration and network maintenance, accurately diagnosing faults and repairing damaged fiber optic cables in a timely manner.
• Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to OSHA and company safety standards, including proper protocols for confined space entry, fall protection, aerial lift operation, and roadside traffic control.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, document testing results, update as-built drawings, and communicate project status to the construction manager.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of fiber color codes, industry-standard splicing procedures, and fiber network architectures (FTTH, long-haul, ring networks).
• Vision: Must possess perfect color vision to accurately identify standard fiber color codes.
• Environment: Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, at varying heights (using bucket trucks or ladders), and in confined spaces (manholes and underground vaults).
• Schedule: Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and availiability for after hours on-call emergency rotations as required by project demands.
• Experience: Minimum of [3-5] years of verifiable hands-on experience in telecommunications fiber splicing and OSP construction.

What you’ll need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
• 6 months of splicing experience or one year of experience in the telecommunications industry

Additional qualifications

• Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber, is preferred
• Knowledge of telecommunications network structure

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work at heights, occasional entry into attics and crawl spaces and alone in remote locations, operate vehicle and heavy machinery; squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 55 pounds without assistance.
• Occasionally: work in confined spaces, use ladder and gaffs for climbing poles, keyboard and mouse
