Job Description

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex industrial electrical systems within oil and gas facilities. This role requires working in a remote Arctic environment, ensuring all work meets the National Electrical Code (NEC) and stringent North Slope safety standards. This position requires advanced knowledge of industrial electrical systems, strong troubleshooting abilities, and the capability to work safely and efficiently in one of the most demanding environments in artic conditions.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Plan and execute new or modified installations to minimize material waste, ensuring cost-effective project delivery in remote locations where supply chains are limited.
  • Engineer layouts that prioritize long-term serviceability; ensuring all junction boxes, control panels, and disconnects remain easily accessible for future maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential interference or "congested" routing issues before installation to prevent mechanical damage or electromagnetic interference (EMI) in sensitive control circuits.
  • Install industrial electrical gear, lighting systems, grounding grids, and control apparatus including relays, contactors, breakers, and switches.
  • Fabricate and install electrical panel stands and cable supports utilizing Unistrut, structural fasteners, and Arctic-grade mounting hardware.
  • Design and install raceway systems, including heavy-duty cable trays and conduit (GRC/IMC).
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric devices or motors, and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, toner, and oscilloscope.
  • Execute safe wire and cable pulls for MC-HL (Hazardous Location), MC, and EMT, ensuring zero damage to insulation or shielding during the process.
  • Terminate wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
  • Communicate daily status of current projects to the Superintendent to ensure all projects are timely, all materials for projects are on schedule for the on-time delivery date for the execution of said projects and within company standards.
  • Comply with all guidelines, policies and procedures established by CCI while on shift, on call or attending meetings.
  • Serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions.
  • Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
    • Compliance with HSE Training required.
    • Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
    • Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.
    • Participating in safety meetings, work safely, and maintain a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.
    • Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.
    • Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA/JHA reviews, pre-job walk downs and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.
    • Promote and participate in Behavior Based Safety as well as programs that promote continuous improvements (CI).
    • Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be deemed unsafe
    • Attend and participate in required meetings, training, exercises and drills.
    • Facilitating or participating in CCI safety meetings, work safely and maintain a safe work environment.
    • Willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to safety
    • Report all incidents immediately to immediate supervisor and HSE Specialist
    • Document and record any injury or near-miss incident that may occur.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in performing precision electrical work while wearing heavy cold-weather PPE and operating in sub-zero temperatures.
  • Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
  • Ability to interpret 1-line drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to work well with others in an environment that includes harsh weather conditions, remote locations.
  • Ability to clearly speak, write, read and understand the English language
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and be willing to participate in the solution process

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • NSTC
  • Alaska Journeyman Electrician Certificate of Fitness (or a reciprocal license from a qualifying state).
  • Minimum three (3) years related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working on the North Slope or in remote Arctic environments.
  • Experience with Heat Trace systems (critical for preventing frozen pipes) and instrumentation/PLC wiring.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles in a mechanical shop environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection and the use of safety eyewear is required in most working situations.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee’s ability to perform to the job standard. FCE LEVEL #3

  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurements will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
