Job Description

Pierce County Refuse Lemay is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Diesel Mechanic in Frederickson, WA, to support our heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance teams. This position offers a competitive hourly rate, CDL premium, and a swing shift differential.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $37.00 – $41.00/hour (DOE)

  • CDL Premium: Additional $1.00/hour for Class A or B CDL holders

  • Shift Differential: +$1.50/hour for swing shift

Schedule & Overtime

  • Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM

  • Overtime: Average 8–10 hours/week; paid at 1.5×

  • Swing shift with differential applied

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and trailers

  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems

  • Use diagnostic tools and software (Cummins Insite, Davie‑4, Allison DOC)

  • Perform DOT and OSHA‑compliant safety inspections

  • Execute MIG welding and basic fabrication tasks

  • Test drive vehicles to confirm repair quality and performance

  • Record repairs, parts, and hours using fleet maintenance software

  • Review and address Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment

  • Communicate clearly with drivers, supervisors, and team members

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of heavy truck/diesel mechanic experience

  • Experience with diagnostics and repair of heavy-duty equipment

  • Valid Driver’s License (Class B CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days)

  • Welding experience (MIG) preferred

  • Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and vehicle safety standards

  • Ability to read and apply technical documentation

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Must have own basic tool set
