Job Description

The Journeyman Crane Mechanic is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and rebuilding of cranes and other lifting equipment. This role requires experience diagnosing and maintaining electrical and control systems, including AC/DC converters, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) from multiple manufacturers, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and industrial control systems involving both low- and high-voltage equipment.

**This is a union position and all wages are determined per Collective Bargaining Agreement**

  • Maintains, tests, and repairs low to high voltage electrical equipment, including circuits, transformers, high voltage switches, and motor control centers.
  • Maintenance of motor repair, to include Cummins Hybrid maintenance, hydraulic systems, troubleshooting, repair, and CAN bus systems.
  • Reads, interprets, and assists in the design of electrical and electronic schematics, mechanical and instrumentation drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings necessary to install, service, and repair equipment in accordance with related regulations and vendor specifications.
  • Conduct on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic troubleshooting to determine the cause of equipment malfunction and establish the necessary repairs utilizing visual inspection, test procedures, and appropriate test equipment.
  • May perform Welding / Fabrication 3G and 4G.
  • Ensures the operational condition of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs per manufacturer’s recommendations on equipment to ensure that it is safe and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Analyze and diagnose any potential malfunctions, defects, damage, or excessive wear.
  • Repair or replace any malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical equipment and subassemblies.
  • Regularly test overhauled equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
  • Ensures accuracy while maintaining all equipment maintenance files.
  • Ensures that services provided follow all safety procedures. This will include the requirement to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety toe boots, protective hard hats, ear protection, and safety glasses, when applicable.
  • Maintain company values, rules, policies, and procedures to fulfill the company's mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • All other duties as assigned by management and/or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Vocational training, completion of an apprenticeship program, or equivalent hands-on experience in heavy equipment or crane maintenance is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experiencemaintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment, cranes, or industrial machinery.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems and components. Electrical Engineering knowledge preferred.
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting high-voltage electrical equipment and systems.
  • Welding and fabrication experience required; 3G and 4G welding certification preferred.
  • Proficient in the safe use of power tools, hand tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Work Environment

  • Must be comfortable working at heights and safely performing duties in elevated work environments.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, dusty environments, and occasional high-noise areas.
  • Must be able to safely work in an active industrial environment with moving vehicles and heavy equipment, requiring constant awareness of surroundings.
  • Must be willing and able to join the applicable labor union.

Pay Range: $68.38 - 70.88 per hour

The posted compensation range is based on the applicable geographic market for the position and may vary depending on factors such as related experience and skill set. Final compensation will be determined based on these items and other relevant factors.
