Journey Natural Gas Pipefitter

This job is eligible for relocation assistance to aid with the costs of relocating to the Colorado Springs area.

Please note that the starting pay for this position is $42.02/hr. with a 5% pay increase after the probationary period to $44.11/hr.

Our Gas Construction Compliance department is hiring a Journey Natural Gas Pipefitter to support natural gas pipeline installations and maintenance efforts. Our pipefitters are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to the natural gas industry; pinpointing the location of and classifying gas leaks; and ensuring that underground utilities have been located and job sites are safe prior to utility work being performed. If you have completed a gas pipefitter apprenticeship and/or have demonstrated experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines, we want to hear from you!

A day in the life of a Journey Natural Gas Pipefitter may include:

  • Installing gas mains and service lines, and locating and classifying leaks
  • Tapping low and high-pressure pipelines
  • Operating leak detection equipment
  • Safe handling of gas main/service lines
  • Operating gas construction excavation equipment
  • Locating underground pipelines and utilities
  • Reading and complying with blueprints and specifications for projects
  • Preparing work sites for installations and compacting excavations
  • Operating and performing maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including trucks, compressors, pumps, generators, and a variety of power tools

What Else Should You Know?
This position is subject to performing work in all types of weather conditions, and you may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, and intense noises. Additionally, you must be able to perform work while wearing a supplied air breathing apparatus, including the ability to pass a full-face mask SCBA fit test.

This position also requires rotating on a 24-hour emergency call-out schedule and remaining within Colorado Springs Utilities' service territory while on-call. You may be required to serve as a first responder for emergencies that involve unpredictable work schedules, including nights and weekends.

Who You Are:

  • Completion of a Gas Pipefitter Apprentice program (DOL or NDOL) and/or demonstrated experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a Confined Space Certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required Operator Qualifications (OQ) per the Colorado Springs Utilities OQ document, and complete additional relevant training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work. Positions in this class typically require exposure to all weather conditions.
