Journey Electric Line Technician

This job is eligible for relocation assistance to the Colorado Springs area.

Please note that the starting pay rate for this position is set at $62.87/hr. followed by an increase to $66.01/hr. after completing probation (typically six months).

What Will You be Doing?

  • Installing underground or overhead electrical lines by laying pipe, pulling wire, and setting meters
  • Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems and related equipment
  • Repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries, and circuits
  • Switching or rerouting electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections
  • Assuring compliance with safety standards and work practices
  • Operating line construction vehicles and equipment including wire-pullers, bucket and boom trucks, and various hand tools
  • Preparing materials for line construction and charging materials to appropriate job
  • Logging completed work orders and preparing reports
  • Assisting in training Line Technician apprentices

This position requires providing emergency response after hours to restore power and repair infrastructure as needed. You will also be subject to working in adverse work and weather conditions, as well as overtime and standby hours as needed.

Education, Experience, and What Else to Know:

  • It is a requirement that qualified candidates will have completed a certified Line Technician apprenticeship program
  • Ideal candidates should have hands-on experience in both overhead AND underground distribution
    • If you move forward to interview, there will be a climbing and overhead/underground practical test as part of the interview process
  • A valid CDL Class A and a valid, unrestricted driver’s license are required
  • Two or more years of experience working as a journey-level lineman is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of Heavy Work.
  • Positions in this class typically require exposure in all weather conditions.
