The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester invites applications for a full (tenured) professorship in theoretical quantum physics to hold the Joseph H. Eberly Endowed Professorship in physics.
The University of Rochester has identified quantum science and technology as an area of current strength and future growth in its strategic plan. Successful candidates will be expected to build on this tradition of excellence in quantum science across several departments at the University and to lead new initiatives, including through the University of Rochester Center for Coherence and Quantum Science. Tenure upon initial appointment for qualified candidates may be granted, contingent on favorable review of the candidate’s dossier by the department, the dean and the Provost.
Complementing the professorship, the Joseph H. Eberly Endowed Professorship Research Fund will provide the professorship holder with substantial resources to pursue discovery—support that can be used to hire students or postdoctoral fellows, purchase specialized equipment, or seed early-stage, proof-of-concept projects.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field, an outstanding record of research, and a track record of excellence in teaching and mentorship at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applications from candidates without a current full professorship will also be considered.
