Job Cost Accountant (JCA) Paul Davis Restoration of Downriver Detroit
In-Office | Full-Time | Hourly

Reports To: General Manager / Owner
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm (Overtime as needed)

About the Role

This is not a traditional accounting job and not a passive admin role.

The Job Cost Accountant is the financial and operational backbone of our restoration business. This role owns job costing from the moment work begins, supports daily operations when ownership is unavailable, and serves as the in-office hub during active mitigation work.

Restoration is an emergency business. When jobs are active, we are here This role is in-office and hands-on by design

If untracked costs make you uncomfortable,
if numbers that don’t reconcile bother you until they’re fixed,
and if you take pride in owning responsibility instead of waiting for instruction,
this role may be a strong fit.

This Role Is a Fit If You:

  • Feel urgency when labor, equipment, or costs are unaccounted for

  • Understand that job costing starts before an estimate is written

  • Proactively pull information from Lead Technicians and the field

  • Take ownership without needing step-by-step direction

  • Can confidently answer phones and communicate with clients, vendors, and partners

  • Are dependable, present, and comfortable being the in-office hub during active jobs

If you are looking for remote work, frequent work-from-home flexibility, or a role that waits for direction before acting, this position will not be a fit We are specifically looking for candidates who have stayed in prior roles long enough to fully own outcomes, corrections, and accountability — not just exposure.

Core Responsibilities

Job Costing & Financial Tracking

  • Set up jobs in QuickBooks as soon as work begins

  • Track labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs daily

  • Assign costs accurately to the correct job and phase

  • Monitor costs even when no estimate exists yet

  • Identify discrepancies early and investigate immediately

  • Ensure no costs “float” untracked

Field & Operations Coordination

  • Maintain regular communication with Lead Technicians

  • Proactively gather:

    • Labor hours

    • Equipment deployed and removed

    • Job progress updates

  • Verify information against time records and RMS notes

Communication & Documentation

  • Answer incoming calls professionally and empathetically

  • Communicate clearly with homeowners, adjusters, vendors, and team members

  • Maintain detailed, accurate notes in RMS

  • Represent the company with confidence and discretion

Administrative & Compliance Support

  • Assist with TPA onboarding and compliance

  • Maintain accounting and job documentation in coordination with CPA

  • Track subcontractor insurance and safety documentation

  • Enter timesheets and assist with payroll processing

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a remote or hybrid role

  • Not a “wait for instruction” position

  • Not a siloed accounting-only job

  • Not suitable for someone who avoids ownership or follow-through

Compensation & Work Expectations

  • Hourly rate: $26.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience

  • Full-time, in-office position (40 hours/week)

  • Overtime expected during active mitigation or high-volume periods

  • This role is hourly to ensure accountability, presence, and operational coverage

This is a key role in a growing operation, with opportunity for advancement and increased compensation as volume increases.

Qualifications

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize independently

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, interruption-heavy environment

  • Fluent in English

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record

  • Ability to work overtime, nights, or weekends if required

  • Desire to continually learn and improve
