We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has proven work experience with a range of unemployed young people and adults in a work-based environment to join our team at Sandwell College on a full time, fixed term basis for the 2026/2027 academic year. This role is for a Job Coach or Support Worker within a Foundation Learning department, dedicated to empowering individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities to secure and sustain meaningful employment.
You’ll work closely with up to eight interns, providing tailored support in both workplace and classroom settings. This includes delivering employability training, assessing their skills and progress, and helping them develop the confidence and independence needed to thrive in sustained employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support a caseload of learners and help them progress towards sustainable employment
- Coach up to 8 learners in the workplace, as well as supporting learners in the classroom
- Deliver employability training and assess learners’ progress, skills and abilities
- Identify and address complex barriers to employment
- Develop bespoke employment plans with learners and regularly review their progress
- Build strong relationships with employers, external organisations, partner agencies and colleagues
- Help learners with interviews, CVs and job applications
- Identify training opportunities and routes into employment
- Support interns with workplace training using systematic instruction
- Promote learners’ welfare, health and safety while on placement
- Maintain accurate records, work logs and training diaries
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A Level 3 vocational qualification
- GCSE English and maths at Grade C/4 or equivalent
- Training in systematic instruction
- At least two years’ experience supporting students with learning difficulties/disabilities in education and/or employment
- Experience delivering training and assessing learning
- A full current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel between sites
