
The Job Captain supports production, coordination, and quality control of architectural deliverables for tenant improvement, retail, quick service restaurant, office, and multi-site program work. This role is primarily responsible for developing and revising design and construction documents under the direction of the Senior Job Captain, Project Manager, and design leadership, while maintaining alignment with project scope, client standards, consultant requirements, and schedule commitments.
The position requires strong production skills in AutoCAD and Revit, a disciplined QA/QC approach, working knowledge of building systems, and the ability to apply basic code requirements to document development. The Job Captain is expected to produce accurate drawing sets, coordinate with consultants, identify missing information and detail needs, and contribute to efficient project delivery across multiple active assignments.
· Prepare and revise architectural design and construction documents using client prototypes, program standards, and project-specific requirements.
· Support production of SD, DD, CD, permit, and related deliverable packages for multiple projects and programs.
· Implement QA/QC of architectural deliverables, including coordination of plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, schedules, details, and consultant information.
· Understand and apply project-specific program requirements, prototype standards, and client direction to drawing production.
· Coordinate drawing backgrounds, redlines, and file exchanges with consultants and internal team members.
· Work in conjunction with the Senior Job Captain and Project Manager to meet scheduled deliverables and production milestones.
· Perform basic code analysis for tenant improvement projects, including egress, ADA, plumbing fixture counts, and other common code-driven planning requirements.
· Maintain a working understanding of building construction, common building systems, and how they affect plan coordination and detailing.
· Identify areas requiring additional detail, clarification, consultant input, or design resolution and elevate them appropriately.
· Assist with responses to plan check comments, jurisdictional corrections, and permit-related revisions under the direction of senior staff.
· Participate in site verification, existing-condition review, and field coordination as required to support accurate document development.
· Maintain organized project files, markups, and production trackers in accordance with company standards.
· Present a professional image as a representative of the company.
Requirements
· Strong production capability in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
· Solid understanding of construction documents, sheet coordination, detailing, and architectural drafting standards.
· Ability to read and interpret consultant drawings, specifications, sketches, and jurisdictional comments.
· Working knowledge of basic building code concepts related to accessibility, egress, life safety, and plumbing fixture requirements for commercial tenant improvement projects.
· Good understanding of building construction and major building systems as they relate to architectural documentation.
· Strong time-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
· Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field preferred.
· Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in architectural services, document production, or commercial tenant improvement work required.
· Experience with retail, restaurant, office, or other multi-site program work preferred.
· Experience with site survey, existing conditions documentation, and permit-related drawing revisions preferred.
