A Canadian architecture firm with more than three decades in practice, focused on retail, restaurant, and quick service restaurant design. They work with national and international brands on multi-site rollouts, including casual and upscale dining as well as big box and specialty retail. The team is small and experienced with a strong base of repeat clients. The office is busy and the work is hands on, but the environment stays approachable.

Why is this role open:

The firm has a steady book of work, with some projects wrapping up and new ones coming in. They want someone who can take the lead on active projects so the directors can stay focused on clients and growth. The practice has grown consistently over the years, and there is room to take on more responsibility.

Responsibilities:

• Run assigned projects day to day and act as the main point of contact on each file
• Prepare and coordinate AutoCAD drawing packages through design development, permit, tender, and construction
• Coordinate directly with clients and consultants across every phase
• Manage permit, landlord, and tenant submissions across different provinces
• Carry out site measurements, document existing conditions, and handle building code and zoning coordination
• Respond to RFIs and shop drawings and stay on top of site coordination
• Keep drawing quality and standards consistent across two to three active projects at once
• Travel across Canada for site visits and client meetings, including the occasional multi-night trip

Must-haves:

• 5 to 8 years of experience in an architecture practice
• Strong AutoCAD skills, since most projects are drawn in AutoCAD
• Experience delivering retail, restaurant, or QSR projects
• Comfortable coordinating clients and consultants directly
• Solid grasp of building codes, zoning, and construction documentation
• A degree or diploma in architecture or architectural technology
• Valid Class G driver's licence

Nice-to-haves:

• Revit experience, as the firm plans to move toward it for larger projects in the future
• Experience with multi-unit residential work
• Experience on airport or other secure-site projects
• Familiarity with the National Building Code and working across provincial jurisdictions

Work style: Full-time and in office, based in Markham. Start times are flexible. It is an open office with large workstations and plenty of space. There is a kitchen and a place to eat together, and the team runs lunch and learns often. Small group, around six people plus a part-time office manager, and this role reports mainly to the Principal. Expect some travel across Canada.

Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 base, depending on experience.
