The Temp Junior Underwriter – Health Underwriting is responsible for the profitable underwriting of the Group Health and Life; Individual Health portfolios based upon agreed limits and guidelines.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. RISK ASSESSMENT
• Underwrite applications for Group Health and Life, Individual Health and Declaration of Insurability (DOI’s) based on established guidelines (re-insurer manual) within specified time period and approval limit for the position.
• Refer all underwriting decisions for review by Senior Underwriter/Team Leader or Manager, unless specified in the Individual and Group Health Underwriting Authority Guidelines.
• Liaise with Medical Consultants as required.
• Full and accurate completion of UDS for Individual Health cases.
• Update Ingenium, Easi Connect, WMS, with decisions on tasks assigned.
• Send emails to branches of requirements ordered, notification of exclusions and postponed/declined decisions, update Ingenium, WMS and upload to MFILES accordingly.
2. PROPOSAL PREPARATION/PORTFOLIO REVIEWS
• Prepare and dispatch Group Health and Life quotations after review by Senior Underwriter/Team Leader or Manager.
• Prepare Group Health and Life Renewals within specified limits.
• Ensure that the correct Group Health rates are updated on PCM in accordance with the renewal terms.
3. GENERAL DUTIES
• To perform any other job-related duties assigned by Team Leader or Manager, inclusive of initiatives assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• 5 CXC/CSEC passes including English Language and Mathematics
• 2 A ‘level /CAPE passes.
• LOMA 280,290, ACS and all related parts
• At least 1 year experience in the pricing of Group Health and Life Insurance or in the Financial Industry
• At least 1 year experience in the underwriting (risk selection) of Medical and Life Insurance
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

The Temp Junior Underwriter – Health Underwriting must possess strong analytical, communication, organizational, interpersonal and negotiation skills. He/she must be honest, reliable, dependable, and dedicated. The incumbent must be able to multitask and be customer oriented. He/she must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
