The Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University’s Center for Scholarly and Cultural Exchange with Israel, the Olamot Center, welcomes applications for a Visiting Lecturer position and Melanie and Andrew Goodman Postdoctoral Fellow for the academic year 2026-27 with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent on successful performance and available funding. Founded in 2017, the Olamot Center aims to realize the substantial potential for scholarly dialogue and collaboration with scholars in Israeli institutions of higher learning by offering Israeli scholars an opportunity to teach and conduct research in one of the largest and oldest Jewish Studies Programs in North America.

The Olamot Center Visiting Lecturer and Postdoctoral Fellow will teach three undergraduate courses per year (one in Fall 2027; two in Spring 2028) in the history, society, and culture of modern Israel, complementing the offerings of the Borns Jewish Studies Program (3 courses total). The Fellow will also present at a workshop for the Program on their main area of research. The Fellow is expected to participate in the activities of the Borns JSP and to contribute to intellectual life at IU.

Ph.D. is required (ABD candidates will be considered). Area of expertise within Jewish Studies is open. The salary for one academic year is $57,000 plus benefits. The Fellow is responsible for arranging their own travel, housing accommodation, and living expenses during their term of appointment, August 2027 through May 2028, and must be able to fulfill their teaching responsibilities on the Indiana University Bloomington campus while classes are in session. To gain final administrative approval, the successful candidate is required to provide verification of credentials and other information required by law, including federally required documentation confirming citizenship or permanent residency of the United States or an authorized alien entitled to be employed in the U.S. for the period of appointment.
