We’re hiring a Java/Kotlin Backend Developer — Mid to Senior Level in Vilnius to help build the metadata platform behind Telia Play You’ll work with Spring Boot, AWS, event-driven architecture, APIs, and production systems used by nearly 2 million subscribers across the Nordics
I’m Tomas Brimor, Engineering Manager for Team Enrichment & API at Telia Play, and I’m looking for someone who wants to grow with us.
We are a supportive, forward-thinking, scrum-sized team building and operating the high-performance metadata platform that powers the Telia Play experience. Our platform processes nearly half a million metadata events daily, with proven capacity to handle peaks exceeding 2 million events during high-demand periods.
We are open to both experienced senior developers and strong mid-level developers ready to grow into broader technical ownership
What matters most is that you have solid backend engineering skills, take ownership, and enjoy building reliable software with real production impact. You do not need to have worked with every part of our stack already — curiosity, ownership, and the ability to learn are just as important.
We value pragmatic engineering, open discussions, shared ownership, and continuous improvement over rigid hierarchy.
What you’ll do
You will work at the core of our metadata ecosystem, helping us aggregate, normalize, enrich, and deliver metadata efficiently across the Telia Play platform.
In this role, you will:
Build and improve backend services using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot
Design, develop, and operate event-driven systems using AWS services such as SNS, SQS, and Kinesis
Create and maintain APIs, integrations, and metadata pipelines that support the Telia Play experience across the Nordics.
Improve reliability, performance, observability, and correctness in high-throughput production systems.
Contribute to architectural decisions around scalability, resilience, maintainability, and cloud-native ways of working.
Take ownership from idea to production, following our “you build it, you run it” mindset — and, depending on your experience level, help mentor others and raise engineering quality.
What will help you thrive in this role
We are looking for someone who is proactive, curious, collaborative, and comfortable taking responsibility beyond just writing code.
You will likely thrive here if you have:
Solid backend development experience with Java and/or Kotlin, preferably in production systems with real users and operational responsibility.
Experience with Spring Boot, APIs, integrations, microservices, and modern backend development practices.
Good understanding of distributed systems, SQL and/or NoSQL databases, and cloud-native development, preferably in AWS
Interest in infrastructure as code, automation, and delivery practices, for example using Terraform
A quality mindset: you care about maintainability, observability, security, performance, and correctness.
Comfortable communication in English across teams and countries.
Interest in AI-assisted software engineering: you are curious about practical ways AI can support development workflows, code quality, automation, or problem-solving.
