Java Developer – Intermediate / Senior

Salary

• Intermediate Java Developer: R40,000 – R50,000 per month
• Senior Java Developer: R60,000 – R80,000 per month

Salary will be determined according to experience, technical capability and level of seniority.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer at either Intermediate or Senior level to join an established development team based in Honeydew, Randburg

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing and maintaining robust Java-based applications and backend services using Java and Spring Boot

This position requires a developer with strong commercial software development experience, excellent problem-solving abilities and a solid understanding of modern software engineering principles. You will work across the full software development lifecycle and collaborate with developers, business analysts, testers and other technical stakeholders.

Previous experience within the telecommunications / telco industry will be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain Java-based applications and services.
• Develop scalable, reliable and maintainable backend solutions using Java and Spring Boot
• Design, build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Develop and maintain integrations between internal and external systems.
• Participate in technical solution design, architecture discussions and development planning.
• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into effective software solutions.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve application defects, integration issues and production incidents.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications, services and integrations.
• Write clean, efficient, reusable, maintainable and well-documented code.
• Conduct and participate in code reviews.
• Apply appropriate software development, security and performance best practices.
• Work closely with developers, business analysts, testers and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning and development activities.
• Support application releases, deployments and post-deployment troubleshooting.
• Contribute towards the continuous improvement of development processes, coding standards and technical practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical commercial experience.
• Strong commercial software development experience using Java
• Solid hands-on development experience with Spring Boot
• Proven backend application and service development experience.
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
• Good understanding of software design principles and development best practices.
• Experience working with relational databases and SQL
• Experience using source-control technologies such as Git
• Experience working within an Agile, Scrum or similar software development environment
• Good understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable and production-quality code.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative development team.
• Must be willing and able to work office-based in Honeydew, Randburg

Candidates being considered at Senior Java Developer level (R60,000 – R80,000 per month) should additionally demonstrate:

• Experience leading technical discussions.
• Strong code-review and software-quality practices.

• Strong understanding of application scalability, maintainability, security and performance.
