Our Japanese language newsroom plays a critical role in providing timely, insightful coverage of Japan’s economy, government and financial policy for a broad and highly engaged audience.

We are seeking an experienced editor to join our Japanese language macroeconomics and government team in Tokyo. This role sits at the heart of our coverage of Japan’s politics, fiscal policy and central bank decisions — stories that shape public debate and move global markets.
As an editor, you will not only ensure accuracy and speed, but also actively shape coverage by proposing compelling story angles based on reader interest, market relevance and the evolving news cycle. You will work closely with reporters to develop ideas, refine focus and deliver impactful journalism under constant deadline pressure.

We’ll trust you to:

• Edit and publish high-quality Japanese-language news stories on Japan’s macroeconomy, government and monetary policy with speed, accuracy and strong news judgment
• Proactively propose story angles and approaches to reporters, helping shape coverage that reflects reader interest, policy significance and market impact
• Present stories in a way that resonates with readers, including sharp headlines, strong leads and clear context
• Report and break news independently when required, leveraging your own sourcing and reporting network
• Anticipate upcoming policy events and potential news developments, and plan coverage accordingly
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure and editorial rigor
• Collaborate across teams, including working with English-language content when relevant, to ensure comprehensive and timely coverage

You’ll need to have:

• At least 5 years of experience in Japanese-language journalism, including reporting and editing for publication
• Demonstrated ability to propose and develop strong story angles, working with reporters to turn complex policy issues into compelling news
• Strong editing skills with a clear understanding of audience interests and how to package news effectively
• Solid knowledge of Japan’s politics, fiscal policy and the Bank of Japan’s monetary policy framework
• A strong work ethic, sound judgment and the ability to perform calmly under sustained pressure
• An understanding of how political, fiscal and monetary policy developments affect financial markets
• Fluency in written and spoken Japanese
• Working-level English; the ability to translate or edit English-language stories into Japanese is a strong plus

• 読者の関心、政策的重要性、市場への影響を踏まえ、記者に対して積極的に企画や切り口を提案
• 鋭い見出し、力強いリード、分かりやすい文脈整理により、読者に響く形で記事を構成
• 必要に応じて、独自取材や人脈を生かして単独でニュースを報じる
• 今後の政策イベントやニュースの芽を先読みし、計画的に取材・編集を進行
• スピードと緊張感のある環境でも冷静さを保ち、編集の質を維持
• 英語記事を担当するチームと連携し、網羅的かつ迅速な報道を実現

求められる経験・スキル

• 日本語ジャーナリズムで5年以上の取材・編集経験
• 複雑な政策テーマを、ニュース性の高い切り口に落とし込む企画力
• 読者目線を踏まえた高い編集力・ニュースのパッケージング力
• 日本の政治・財政政策・日銀の金融政策に関する確かな知識
• 強い責任感と判断力、高いプレッシャー下でも安定して働ける力
• 政治・財政・金融政策が金融市場に与える影響への理解
• 日本語 ：ネイティブレベル （読み書き・会話 ）
• 英語 ：業務レベル （英語記事の翻訳ができれば尚可 ）
