Social Enterprise Janitorial Supervisor Opportunity at Toolworks

Toolworks, a reputable human service agency dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, is currently seeking a passionate Social Enterprise (SE) Janitorial Supervisor to join our team. This position provides direct supervision, training, and support to client workers and assists in the coordination and completion of janitorial services and special projects.

Wages: $24.50 - $27.50 per hour per hour, depending on experience.
Employment Type:
Non-exempt, Hourly, Full-Time.
Work Location:
San Francisco.

The Janitorial Supervisor combines hands-on janitorial duties with quality assurance, documentation, customer communication, and field oversight responsibilities. The Janitorial Supervisor also serves as a liaison with customer representatives, supports contract compliance, and helps ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery.

Supervisory and Janitorial Functions

  • Supervise janitorial tasks and special projects as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and janitorial skills training to client workers.
  • Monitor work performance and provide follow-up instruction and support as needed.
  • Perform janitorial work such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, buffing, restroom cleaning, trash removal, and dusting.
  • Maintain and monitor janitorial supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure assigned work is completed in accordance with quality, safety, and contract standards.
  • Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, supply shortages, and operational issues.

Administrative and Quality Assurance Functions

  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control inspections of assigned project areas.
  • Document inspections, client trainings, corrective actions, and customer satisfaction follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, logs, reports, and other required program documentation.
  • Work directly with NPS representatives and other customer contacts to help fulfill contractual obligations, resolve service issues, and support positive working relationships.
  • Act as a liaison in the absence of the Project Manager, as assigned.

Other Duties

  • Participate in team meetings, audits, trainings, and organizational initiatives.
  • Transport self and, where authorized, equipment or supplies between assigned sites as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of janitorial methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and support adults with disabilities in a respectful, professional, and effective manner.
  • Ability to perform hands-on janitorial duties and model work tasks for client workers.
  • Ability to complete inspections, reports, training records, and related documentation accurately and timely.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately to changing worksite needs.
  • Ability to recognize unusual, unsafe, or potentially threatening conditions and respond appropriately.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to meet operational and customer needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Fluency in report writing.
  • American Sign Language, Spanish, or Cantonese skills preferred; some roles may require language skills based on the population served.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to drive as part of job duties.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with adults with disabilities required, preferably in a community-based setting.
  • Prior janitorial, custodial, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments at customer and community work sites throughout SF and Marin County.
  • Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, odors, dust, waste, and wet or slippery surfaces.
  • Work may be performed in restrooms, offices, common areas, public facilities, and other customer service locations.
  • Position may require local travel between assigned sites during the workday.
  • Work may involve regular interaction with customers, public agency representatives, client workers, and members of the public.
  • Outdoor work may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, including heat, sun, wind, dampness, and cold. California outdoor workplaces may trigger heat-illness prevention requirements such as water, shade, rest, and training

Program Requirements

  • First Aid/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check, consistent with applicable law and job requirements. In California, criminal history inquiries and background checks generally must occur only after a conditional offer, unless a legal exception applies.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, if driving is required for the position.
  • Must comply with all organizational safety, attendance, documentation, and workplace conduct requirements.
