POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Janitorial / Maintenance Helper carries out general janitorial and maintenance duties related to building, tenant units, and equipment, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful job applicant will have at least 3 months of prior related work experience, as well as:
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Universal Precautions
  • Certification in WHMIS 2015
  • Certification in Non-Violence Crisis Intervention
  • Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults

JOB DUTIES

  • Performs minor repairs in the common area and Residents’ units as instructed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Checks and maintains electrical and mechanical equipment, such as changing air filters and light bulbs, or as instructed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Cleans and maintains hallways, emergency stairways, offices, washrooms, staff room, lobbies, and patio.
  • Cleans and assists in maintenance work required in vacant units.
  • Removes, empties and returns garbage, recycling, and organic bins.
  • Reports Health & Safety-related concerns and repair issues, such as, but not limited to, furniture and fixtures that affect or may affect the workplace and Residential environment for Staff and Residents.
  • Participates in ensuring building security, checking doors and windows to ensure they are secured.
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as balcony areas, and keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
  • Restocks washroom supplies and hand hygiene units.
  • All other related duties and tasks, as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or the Program Manager, Grace Mansion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties require employee to work in Grace Mansion – an 84 room, four storey Residence located at 596 East Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. Responsibilities will involve working throughout the residential areas, and general building. The employee may at times be subject to hazardous or disagreeable conditions in the performance of their duties.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS:

The Salvation Army Grace Mansion – 596 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC.

Hours: 40 hours per week; 8.5 hours per day, with one half-hour unpaid meal break.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
