Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has an opening for a Janitor. In this role the incumbent will, under limited supervision, perform tasks associated with this position, as well as other tasks as directed by management.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Cleaning, sterilizing and supplying restrooms
Cleaning and sterilizing offices, laboratories and public areas
Removing and disposing of trash including recyclables
Cleaning building floors and/or performing floor maintenance by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, sealing/waxing, or vacuuming
Dusting walls, base boards, and equipment
Cleaning entranceway windows, doors, stairwells, elevators, partitions and drinking fountains using necessary cleaners, sponges and/or squeegees
Following procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
Mixing water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions
Notifying managers concerning the need for repairs to building operating systems
Requesting supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
Follow requirements described in Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Abide by the principles of the Safe Conduct of Research. This includes being personally responsible for ensuring safe operations by raising safety concerns, using a questioning attitude, considering hazards for every task and continuously learning
Basic Qualifications:
A HS diploma or GED
A minimum of two years of commercial/industrial or sanitation janitorial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using floor buffers and polishers
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Strong verbal communication skills
Special Requirement:
Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
