Job Description

*** Part- Time, Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M., Pay Rate: $16.50 per hour***

Primary Purpose: Perform routine cleaning of the building. Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the building. Drive truck/van for collection of donations for Pantry or other Corps Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors, empty/clean all wastebaskets.
  • Pick-up and unload donations as needed/scheduled.
  • Replace light bulbs.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply sealer to floors.
  • Wash windows inside and out.
  • Perform routine maintenance of housekeeping equipment and keep janitorial closet in a tidy and clean manner.
  • Move furniture or put together furniture on a needed basis.
  • Remove snow and other debris from around the perimeter of the building.
  • Tear down and take out boxes from the family services area.
  • Ensure all windows and doors are locked when necessary.
  • Light painting and other maintenance, as needed.
  • Distribute donations to proper departments as required
  • Oversee loading/unloading of truck ensuring the safety of personnel and volunteers
  • Sort, box, organize donations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and related experience in driving 14-foot box trucks, including trucks into close spaces, such as docks and alleys.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to utilize pallet jack.
  • Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be able to obtain and keep current DOT compliant certifications.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate vehicles and forklift, and other storage movement equipment. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 75 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The environment is where the clients are so it might be loud or busy at times. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and varying temperatures. The work environment is in vehicles and areas with near moving mechanical parts and loud noise. The environmental conditions include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
