Job Description

The Part-Time Janitor is responsible for maintaining the property by keeping it a clean, safe and orderly environment in all areas of the facility. This position performs routine cleaning duties, ensures that cleaning supplies are stocked and some lawn maintenance. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, is dependable and works well independently.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Dusting (i.e. Furniture, Window Seals, Vents, etc.)
  • Sweeping and mopping (i.e. Non-carpeted Areas, etc.)
  • Vacuuming (i.e. Offices, Hallways, Offices, etc.)
  • Washing windows
  • Cleaning and disinfecting kitchen as needed
  • Daily cleaning of toilets, urinals, sinks and porcelain fixtures
  • Mopping staff bathrooms on the shelter side of the building
  • Mopping kitchen floor, both sides of the building
  • Emptying trash receptacles daily
  • Lawn maintenance and weeding
  • Pouring bleach down the drains during Spring through Fall months
  • Maintaining an inventory of all chemical supplies, updating monthly and informing the Office Manager when liquid chemical supplies need to be ordered
  • Maintaining janitorial closets in a clean and organized manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Office building cleaning experience (preferred)

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Capability to drive and handle a box refrigerated truck and a Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Vehicle
  • Basic knowledge in the use of cleaning machinery (i.e floor buffer, carpet cleaners, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to organize and keep track of equipment and supplies
  • Know what to do in an emergency situation

Computer Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training and all required trainings and keep current as needed
  • Must have and maintain a current valid license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR) within 30 days.
  • Current ServSafe certification or gain certification within 60 days.

  • Paid Time Off which includes:
    • Up to (6) earned sick days per year may be used as discretionary days.
    • The accrual rate is based upon years of service and approved hours worked.
    • Sick days begin accruing the first of the month following 30 days of employment and you may begin to use accrued sick days once available.
    • Vacation begins accruing the first of the month after one full calendar month after employment begins, and you may begin to use vacation days after (90) days of employment.
    • You will receive up to 2 personal days per year based on date of hire.
    • Birthday off with pay.
    • Paid holidays are effective immediately
