Job Description

The Janitor position works under the supervision of the Shelter Director to assist in cleanliness for the Harbor House Family Emergency Shelter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure floors remain clear of all tripping and other hazards
  • Maintain and ensure all floors are clean, swept, mopped, and/or vacuumed
  • Maintain and ensure all restrooms are clean
  • Clean designated building areas
  • Perform and document routine inspection
  • Follow all health, safety regulations, and chemical storage and hygiene best practices
  • Empty trash receptacles, recycling and compost bins
  • Ensure unused areas of the building are locked for safety and security
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Janitorial Experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and appliances
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and hazardous components
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
  • Janitorial and cleaning supplies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
