Job Description

Terms of Employment: 12 months

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Temporary Position

$15.00 per hour

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Must be at least 16 years old and in high school for 2 years

  • Volunteer work at Science Center or similar venue

  • Prior experience working with children, preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sound Science lab practices and procedures

  • Evidence of exemplary interpersonal skills

  • Excellent customer service, communication (both written and verbal) and cross group collaboration skills required

  • Strong math and science skills

  • Must be comfortable working with all age groups of children

  • Must have flexibility, integrity and the willingness to learn

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for ticket sales, gift shop sales and monitoring the lobby
  • Give short presentations, as needed
  • Assist attendees with science lab activities
  • Assist with check-in and assignments
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends
  • Help set up and clean up daily
  • Interacts with attendees
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
