This is an opportunity for an emerging or experienced archivist or someone who has experience in cultural, heritage, or community roles and wants to grow into archival practice.

Join our committed outreach and engagement team to help build strong, respectful and impactful relationships with iwi and communities, supporting them to care for their taonga and collections to achieve their aspirations. You will work across the motu doing meaningful future-focused mahi that uplifts and empowers communities.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with experience in supporting and strengthening community-led initiatives to work alongside iwi, hapū, whānau and community groups. You will have skills in providing advice, sharing knowledge and co-developing approaches for caring for iwi and community collections, grounded in tikanga and local priorities.

We value professional archival skills, but also encourage people with transferable skills from heritage, libraries, archives, museums, cultural advisory or community roles to apply.

To succeed in this exciting role, you will need:

• Experience in archival, heritage or preservation advisory roles or transferable skills from the library, archival, community, culture and heritage sectors.

• Experience working with iwi, hapū, and whānau in a documentary heritage context.

• Strong relationship management experience, particularly with Māori and community groups.

• Strong administration, facilitation and training delivery skills.

• An ability to take initiative and work independently

• A relevant tertiary qualification (preferably postgraduate) in a related field is desirable but not essential.

About Us

The Partnerships and Commissions branch of DIA is responsible for a diverse portfolio of national institutions, commissions, Executive and community-based services. The branch oversees and supports the National Library and Archives New Zealand, Hāpai Hapori – Community Operations, and Ministerial Services who provide a range of services to the Prime Minister and the Executive. The branch oversees various commissions including royal commissions, ministerial inquiries and those established through legislation (Local Government Commission, Gambling Commission).
