Primary objectives

The ITC Caseworker will provide therapeutic casework services within a trauma informed therapeutic framework and work collaboratively with the ITC team to implement strategies and plans for individual young people that address presenting issues, facilitate the development of new skills and perspectives, promote positive behavioural outcomes and increase engagement in education, employment, training and community activities.

Key result areas and responsibilities

The ITC Caseworker will:

• Manage a case load and ensure that case work practice is responsive to individual needs and reflects the organisation’s values, policies and practice frameworks;
• Ensure the emotional, social, behavioural, developmental and educational needs of young people are met through the development, implementation and review of individual therapeutic case plans;
• Ensure case work is provided in accordance with the legislation, the Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care, the Intensive Therapeutic Care and Permanency Support Program Service Requirements, DCJ Permanency Case Management Policy, Rules and Practice Guidance;
• Establish collaborative relationships with a wide range of specialist and mainstream services to improve outcomes for young people and their families;
• Develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with Aboriginal and CALD agencies;
• Support young people to be safely connected to family and the significant people and places in their lives by planning family time and community activities in accordance with the approved plan;

Key selection criteria

The incumbent will have:

• A Bachelor degree in social work, youth work, community services or a relevant field;
• Experience working with young people with complex trauma and an understanding of adolescent development, trauma, attachment and resilience theory;
• Demonstrated skills and experience in casework practice preferably in OOHC or child protection; and the ability to achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable young people and their families. Experience in therapeutic residential care will be highly regarded;
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.

Additional Requirements:

• Valid and current NSW Drivers License.
• Valid and current NSW Working with Children Check.
• Valid and current NDIS Worker Check
• Satisfactory criminal history check conducted by MacKillop Family Services.
