IT Test & Release Manager

The IT Test & Release Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality, stability, and controlled delivery of IT solutions across the organization. The role defines and drives testing and release management practices, including automation, governance, and continuous improvement, to support reliable and efficient software delivery. Working closely with Product Owners, delivery teams, and operations, the position plays a key role in strengthening end-to-end quality across business-critical platforms, including major SAP transformation initiatives.
Main responsibilities
  • Define and implement the organization’s test strategy, including automation, quality standards, and KPIs to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Lead the planning, monitoring, and execution of testing activities to ensure solutions meet functional, integration, performance, and business quality requirements.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance test automation capabilities and enable product teams to adopt scalable automation practices.
  • Define, implement and enforce release management processes and governance to ensure controlled, compliant, and reliable deployments across the IT landscape.
  • Coordinate end-to-end release activities with Product Owners, IT Product Managers, and technical teams, including major SAP upgrades, support packages, and data refresh cycles.
  • Drive risk-based testing, release readiness assessments, and go/no-go recommendations based on quality metrics, dependencies, and business impact.
  • Ensure alignment of testing and release practices with change, configuration, deployment, Agile, DevOps, and IT service management standards.
  • Build strong relationships with business and IT stakeholders, act as the central point of contact for testing and release topics, and promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Latitude for action and decision-making

  • Operates with a high level of autonomy in managing testing and release management practices across the IT organization.
  • Defines and evolves test strategies, automation frameworks, and quality standards in alignment with the CIO Office and Head of IT Products.
  • Establishes and enforces release management processes, governance principles, and quality gates.
  • Makes recommendations on tools, methodologies, and process improvements aligned with Agile, DevOps, and IT service management practices.
  • Provides release readiness assessments and go/no-go recommendations based on quality metrics, risks, and operational impact.
  • Works cross-functionally through influence and collaboration, without direct hierarchical authority over all involved teams.
  • Escalates major delivery, quality, or release risks where required and supports decision-making for business-critical releases.

Skills (knowledge, expertise)

  • Strong expertise in SAP landscapes, including SAP ECC and S/4HANA, with a solid understanding of migration and transformation challenges.
  • Hands-on knowledge of SAP Solution Manager and SAP Cloud ALM for testing, release, and lifecycle management.
  • Solid experience with test management and test automation tools, particularly Tricentis solutions such as Tosca.
  • Strong understanding of release, change, and transport management in SAP and complex enterprise environments.
  • Good knowledge of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and IT service management practices.
  • Ability to define, track, and communicate quality metrics, KPIs, and management reporting.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end integration scenarios across SAP and non-SAP enterprise applications.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills across business and IT teams.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and continuous improvement capabilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a global, matrix organization and lead cross-functional initiatives through influence.

Profile (education/experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in IT testing, quality assurance, release management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience working in SAP environments, including ECC and S/4HANA-based landscapes.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining test strategies and implementing test automation capabilities.
  • Practical experience with SAP ALM tools and automation platforms such as Tricentis is highly desirable.
  • Experience coordinating complex releases, change management, and transport activities in business-critical environments.
  • Exposure to Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD ways of working in enterprise delivery organizations.
  • Strong track record of stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
