Job Description
IT Telecommunications Specialist
$30.00–$35.00 per hour | Full-Time | Non-Exempt
If you enjoy solving problems, improving systems, and being the person people can count on when technology isn't working the way it should, this could be the role for you.
As our IT Telecommunications Specialist, you'll take ownership of the technology that keeps our teams connected — from VoIP and phone systems to circuits, wireless services, vendors, and telecom projects.
This is more than a troubleshooting role. You'll have the opportunity to manage projects, build vendor relationships, identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce costs, and help shape how our telecommunications environment evolves.
If you're analytical, organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and enjoy finding better ways to do things, we'd like to meet you.
What You'll Do:
You'll play a key role in keeping our telecommunications environment reliable, efficient, and aligned with the needs of the organization. Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage a comprehensive, site-by-site inventory of circuits, carriers, phone numbers, VoIP services, devices, contracts, costs, and service status.
- Review, reconcile, and approve telecommunications invoices and help identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for telecommunications carriers and service providers, managing issues, installations, commitments, and escalations through completion.
- Coordinate telecommunications projects, including circuit consolidation, new circuit installations, carrier transitions, VoIP migrations, and legacy service disconnects.
- Manage telecommunications services from order through disconnect, ensuring new services are installed and validated and outdated or redundant services are promptly retired.
- Troubleshoot telecom-related outages and connectivity issues, coordinating with vendors and internal IT teams to get things back up and running.
- Communicate outage status, business impact, and updates to internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Manage day-to-day VoIP administration, including users, extensions, phone numbers, devices, voicemail, fax, call routing, queues, licensing, and connectivity.
- Support telecommunications-related employee and device onboarding and offboarding.
- Maintain phone and voicemail systems and provide user support and training.
- Serve as an escalation point for telecom, voice, circuit, and connectivity issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of telecommunications services, configurations, providers, contracts, phone numbers, and the VoIP environment.
- Support telecommunications integration for acquisitions, including service discovery, number porting, equipment requirements, VoIP migration, cutover coordination, and retirement of legacy services.
- Develop reports and dashboards that support budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and project tracking.
- Manage projects of varying sizes while keeping work aligned with established budgets and schedules.
- Look for opportunities to improve processes, performance, service reliability, and overall telecommunications efficiency.
What We Offer:
We believe your compensation should reflect the value you bring — and your benefits should support you both at work and outside of it.
- $30.00–$35.00 per hour based upon experience & skills
- Discretionary performance-based bonus opportunity
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Holiday Pay
- 2 Floating Holidays
- Medical Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- 401(k)
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–4 years of experience supporting telecommunications environments, including VoIP, carrier circuits, telecom expense management, vendor coordination, and/or multi-site implementations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field. Equivalent education and work experience will be considered.
- Experience coordinating circuit installations, carrier migrations, number porting, and service disconnects.
- Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
- Familiarity with telecommunications carriers, billing structures, and contracts.
- Prior experience with RingCentral.
What Makes You a Great Fit:
You don't have to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys solving problems and figuring out how things work.
- Takes ownership and follows issues through to resolution.
- Can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
- Is organized and comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Notices inefficiencies and looks for ways to make things better.
- Works well across teams and builds productive vendor relationships.
- Can adapt when priorities change and new challenges come up.
- Brings curiosity, initiative, and a growth mindset to their work.
- Takes pride in accuracy, accountability, and doing things the right way.
Why This Role Matters
Technology doesn't have to be complicated to be effective. In this role, you'll help make sure our telecommunications systems are reliable, our vendors are accountable, our services are well managed, and our teams have the connectivity they need to do their jobs.
You'll have the opportunity to make a real impact — not just by keeping systems running, but by improving processes, controlling costs, supporting business growth, and making technology work better for the people who use it.
If you're ready for a role where you can take ownership, solve meaningful problems, and continue growing your technical and project management skills, we'd love to hear from you.
