A Day in the Life

The Global Pricing and Contracting IT team at Medtronic partners with commercial groups to develop AI and analytics-driven systems that improve pricing and contracting strategies. These tools generate insights to help maximize revenue, expand market share, and support global go-to-market efforts. The role offers strong exposure to Medtronic’s products, data, and commercial operations, along with opportunities for career growth in a diverse and inclusive environment focused on advancing healthcare.

The IT Tester role supports the design, testing, and optimization of technology solutions aligned with business requirements and architecture standards. Responsibilities include developing system specifications, executing and supporting testing activities, evaluating system performance and compatibility, and ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. The role also involves identifying and resolving system issues, supporting integrations, documenting technical specifications, and collaborating with cross functional teams and vendors to improve system reliability, performance, and user experience.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Test Planning and Strategy
    • Support creation and execution of test plans, including scope, timelines, and risk-based testing.
    • Apply shift-left testing by engaging early in requirements discussions to identify risks and gaps.
    • Contribute to risk-based and data-driven testing strategies and identify system weaknesses before release.
  • Test Design and Development
    • Design test scenarios, cases, and scripts (manual and automated) from business and functional requirements.
    • Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects.
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Tricentis Tosca) and improve automation coverage.
    • Use AI-assisted testing for test design, test data generation, and maintenance.
  • Test Execution and Validation
    • Execute functional, regression, integration, end-to-end (E2E), and user acceptance testing.
    • Validate system behavior against business workflows, rules, and acceptance criteria.
    • Perform API testing (e.g., Postman), database validation using SQL, and support performance testing (e.g., NeoLoad, LoadRunner).
  • Defect Management and Quality Assurance
    • Log, track, and support defect resolution with clear reproduction steps and impact details.
    • Participate in defect triage, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.
    • Ensure applications meet performance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Tools and Test Management
    • Use tools such as qTest for test management, execution tracking, and reporting.
    • Utilize defect and test management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail).
    • Support test data preparation and data-driven testing.
  • Collaboration and Agile Practices
    • Work with developers, analysts, testers, and product owners in Agile teams.
    • Participate in sprint ceremonies and contribute to test reporting and release updates.
  • Documentation and Governance
    • Document test results, defects, and recommendations.
    • Maintain test plans and testing documentation while following testing standards and governance practices.
  • Core Knowledge and Skills
    • Knowledge of manual and automated testing methodologies.
    • Familiarity with SDLC and Agile environments.
    • Experience testing APIs, integrations, and enterprise applications.
    • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) preferred.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and attention-to-detail skills.

Required knowledge and experience:

  • Overall 3 to 7 years of IT experience with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, MCA, or MSc.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks and tools.
  • Solid understanding of system landscape, design and architecture.
  • Experience with implementing technologies that span automation, Pricing, Quoting and Contracting.
  • Experience with management of project implementations.
  • Strong process documentation skills.
  • Hands-on experience or exposure to:
    • Tricentis Tosca, qTest, Vera, NeoLoad (or equivalent tools).
    • API testing tools such as Postman.
    • Performance testing tools such as LoadRunner (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of software testing lifecycle (STLC) and defect management processes.
  • Preferred: Basic understanding of Deal, Quote, Pricing, or Contracting processes.
  • Preferred: Experience working in Agile environments and enterprise applications (e.g., Salesforce, Conga, SAP).
    NICE TO HAVE:
  • Exposure to Conga (CPQ / CLM) or similar CPQ/CLM platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into test scenarios.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of excel and how to extract/analyze data.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit clear requirements; translate those requirements into robust support models; and deliver accurate, reliable solutions.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, quickly assessing opportunities and defining solutions.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with business users and technical staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities fluidly and without compromising stakeholder collaboration.
