Summary

The mission of the Secretary of State's office is to serve the public by meeting its legal responsibilities of collecting, securing, and communicating information that enhances commerce, ensures the integrity of Louisiana's elections, and preserves, presents, and makes accessible government information essential to Louisiana's operations and its recorded history.

Operating as a core Network Administrator, this IT Technical Specialist 1 or 2 will manage, optimize, and secure the agency's enterprise network infrastructure, taking ownership of critical network services, hardware, and cybersecurity solutions. Ideal candidates will bring practical experience with core routing and switching, SD-WAN, NGFW platforms, network access control, and VoIP systems.

Examples of duties

Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associate's degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master’s degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NOTE:

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job Duties:

  • Manage, optimize, and secure the agency's enterprise network infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Provision, configure, and maintain critical network hardware, including routers, switches, and associated peripherals.
  • Administer enterprise-level core routing protocols and switching environments to preserve traffic efficiency and stability.
  • Deploy, maintain, and tune Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technologies across agency sites.
  • Monitor, support, and troubleshoot enterprise Voice over IP (VoIP) and digital communications infrastructure.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Ability to use a computer in daily work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate politely with the user community.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical person.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds for equipment purposes.
  • Ability to walk, push, pull, bend, kneel, stretch, stoop, etc. in order to prepare, install, and maintain computer equipment.
  • Ability to use analytical skills and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
