This position will remain open for a minimum of seven (7) days. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment at any time after the minimum posting period once a sufficient applicant pool has been established. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A.

This position’s work supports the whole college community and their partners. Due to the advanced knowledge required for performing this job effectively, this position also serves as a technical reference for the Information Technology management team.

Examples of duties

  • Coordinate, configure, implement, and maintain virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers. Recommends in developing standards for implementing software and hardware for infrastructure servers.
  • Install, modify, and delete virtual machines. Modify Hypervisor settings. Analyze server performance data and recommends capacity and configuration standards.
  • Works with the Director of Computing Infrastructure and other system administrators to maintain system backups, develop data storage and disaster recovery strategies, and monitor cybersecurity of systems.
  • Monitor and implement backups, verify storage configuration and use, and analyze and modify the configuration of security policies across infrastructure systems.
  • Assists in conducting searches and recovering email in Office365 eDiscovery when needed.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other senior technical staff to permanently resolve recurring or common issues across applications; escalates to management when appropriate.
  • Provides assistance and training on Exchange365 and other server applications to lower-level technicians. Works with other system administrators and the supervisor on the creation and configuration of security and other policies for all infrastructure applications.
  • Submitting email searches and verifying emails are deleted. Analyzes M365 operation for errors. Demonstrates M365 operations to other technicians. Creates and modifies M365 security policies.
  • Supports the current Amazon WebServices (AWS) server/file backup system for retentionanddisasterrecovery.Essentialforsystemrecoveryincaseofanetworkserverfailure. Part of the team for disaster recovery.
  • Manage storage, configure logins for AWS, analyze resource usage in AWS.
  • Implements, Upgrades, configures, and maintains Microsoft 365 and other infrastructure applications and systems: Microsoft (MS) Office365, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, MS Exchange, other applications.
  • Implement configuration changes for Microsoft365 apps. Analyzes application licensing. Analyzes on-premise Exchange system configuration and email flow. Analyzes anti-spam settings on M365 and Exchange on-premise. Configures application deployment to servers and workstations via Intune and AD policies.
  • Works with other departments providing server and application support for Authentication, phone, and environmental controls.
  • Configure conditional access policies. Modify server OS settings via Intune or AD Policies. Troubleshoot issues that affect multiple users.
  • Routinely verifies system status and performance, effectively fine-tuning systems as needed.
  • Check Server OS performance metrics to determine performance issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • System administration – documented experience focusing on Windows, Active Directory, and Linux environments, including application support.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and VEEAM/AWS backup solutions.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in endpoint device management configuration and compliance via Intune.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in SCCM and endpoint image creation and management.
  • Operational and moderate administrative expertise in Active Directory infrastructure components such as domain controller setup, AD sites and services, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, network infrastructure, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Office 365 – knowledge of identity management principles, MFA, Conditional Access, and Entra ID Connect.
  • Operational experience with eDiscovery in Office 365 and compliance-driven data retrieval.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize server performance and proactively.
  • Ability to install, administer, and configure applications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and provide technical training.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of IT security frameworks (NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001)

Terms of Employment

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $90,096 - $121,176* annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A. After completing the six-month probation, your salary will increase by 2 steps. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union. Classified positions qualify for the following benefits:
