Fix the issue. Support the learning. Keep technology working across college.
Technology matters when it works.
A lesson can run smoothly. A student can access the right resource. A colleague can get on with their work. Equipment is where it needs to be, and problems are sorted before they become bigger issues.
As our IT Support Technician, you’ll help make that happen.
You’ll provide cross-college technical support to staff and students, helping to keep IT equipment, software, AV and associated infrastructure working effectively. You’ll support curriculum delivery by preparing, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, and by working with colleagues to resolve technical issues.
This is a practical, hands-on role for someone with recent IT technical experience who enjoys solving problems and helping people.
You’ll need good knowledge of IT hardware and software, confidence supporting equipment and the ability to communicate clearly with users who may have different levels of technical confidence.
What you'll do
- Provide technical support to staff and students across the college.
- Support curriculum activity by making sure IT equipment is available and working.
- Check, maintain and repair equipment, or arrange repair where needed.
- Carry out routine technical maintenance of IT equipment and associated infrastructure.
- Support hardware, software, AV and specialist technology where required.
- Liaise with technical specialists to support network and communication services.
- Help resolve equipment and technical issues in learning and working spaces.
- Work as part of the cross-college technical team.
- Support staff and students with clear, practical technical guidance.
- Work flexibly across college sites and changing priorities.
What you'll bring
- Recent relevant technical experience within IT.
- Good working knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
- Good working knowledge of AV equipment.
- Confidence checking, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment.
- The ability to communicate clearly with staff, students and colleagues.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- The ability to prioritise work and use initiative.
- A proactive team approach.
- A flexible approach to working hours and changing college schedules.
- Experience with Mac, CAD or specialist curriculum technology would be helpful.
What you’re like
- Practical. You enjoy getting hands-on with equipment and solving problems.
- Helpful. You support people clearly and patiently.
- Reliable. Colleagues can trust you to follow things through.
- Calm. You stay steady when technology fails or priorities change.
- Organised. You keep tasks, equipment and support requests under control.
- Flexible. You adapt to different sites, users and curriculum needs.
- Team-minded. You work well with IT colleagues and wider college teams.
- User-focused. You know that good technical support helps teaching, learning and work happen.
Essentials
- You’ll need an enhanced DBS check. If you get the job, we’ll do this for you.
- You’re committed to safeguarding and inclusion.
- You can travel across college sites and other locations where college activity takes place.
- You’re willing to work flexibly in line with college activity and fluctuating schedules.
