We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented IT Support Intern to assist our Information Technology team in supporting corporate systems, infrastructure, security, and end‑user operations. This is a temporary, non‑exempt summer internship position based at our Headquarters in Herndon, VA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the Information Technology team including, but not limited to, the following areas:

Helpdesk Support

  • Respond to and resolve IT support tickets in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for end users.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff as needed and document resolutions.

Laptop Inventory & Asset Management

  • Maintain accurate records of IT hardware assets including laptops, monitors, and peripherals.
  • Assist with receiving, tagging, and tracking new equipment through the asset lifecycle.
  • Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.

Laptop Cleanup & Provisioning

  • Image, configure, and deploy laptops for new hires and refresh cycles.
  • Perform data wipes and hardware inspections on returned equipment.
  • Ensure devices meet organizational standards before deployment.

Antivirus & Endpoint Security

  • Monitor antivirus and endpoint protection dashboards for alerts and compliance gaps.
  • Assist with deploying security agents and ensuring all endpoints are protected.
  • Support incident response procedures related to malware or security events.

ISO Compliance

  • Assist in maintaining documentation and evidence for ISO 27001 or equivalent security frameworks.
  • Support internal audits by gathering and organizing compliance artifacts.
  • Help enforce IT policies and procedures aligned with organizational security standards.

Patch Management

  • Assist in testing, scheduling, and deploying OS and application patches across the fleet.
  • Monitor patch compliance and generate status reports.
  • Coordinate with teams to minimize disruption during maintenance windows.

Automation

  • Identify repetitive IT tasks suitable for automation and propose solutions.
  • Develop scripts or workflows using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools to streamline operations.
  • Document automated processes for team reference and continuity.

Azure AD Cleanup

  • Audit Azure Active Directory for stale accounts, orphaned groups, and configuration inconsistencies.
  • Assist with user lifecycle management including onboarding and offboarding tasks.
  • Support enforcement of conditional access policies and group‑based licensing.

Work Experience

  • Prior internship or coop experience is preferred but not required.

Job Skills

  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals (algorithms, programming languages, data structures, database design, operating systems, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of Windows operating systems and common business applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a part‑time schedule.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration and Azure Active Directory (preferred).
  • Exposure to scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python (preferred).
  • Knowledge of ITIL fundamentals or IT service management concepts (preferred).
  • Understanding of ISO 27001 or similar information security frameworks (preferred).
  • Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, or Freshdesk (preferred).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies and apply them to real‑world problems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Exhibits the characteristics of a continuous learner.

Education

  • Required to be currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field
