If you enjoy working with modern cloud technology, hands-on security tooling, and want to make a real difference in how a growing international bank protects its people, clients, and data — this could be your next role.
We are now looking for a Security Engineer to join our IT Operations team. You will work closely with our IT Security function, IT Helpdesk, and our SOC partner to keep our clients, servers, and cloud environment secure — every day, and at scale across the countries we operate in.
Avarda Bank is an internet-based niche bank offering consumer banking and e-commerce solutions through our own highly automated IT platform. Our business spans Consumer Lending, E-commerce Solutions, and Credit Cards, and we serve private individuals across 14 countries: Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. We're growing fast, and so is the scope and complexity of what we need to protect.
You'll be part of IT Operations, working alongside colleagues who own our global infrastructure, services, and security operations. You'll collaborate closely with the IT Helpdesk on a daily basis — supporting, escalating, and resolving security-related issues together — as well as with our SOC provider and external security partners. It's a hands-on, collaborative environment where knowledge-sharing and teamwork make everyone better at what they do.
As a Security Engineer, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day security of our client, server, and cloud environments. Your responsibilities will include:
Securing and maintaining our client, server, and cloud infrastructure
Managing and improving Conditional Access policies, Group Policies (GPO), and Intune configuration profiles
Working with Identity and Access Security, including Privileged Identity/Access Management (PIM/PAM)
Monitoring for and responding to security incidents together with our SOC, using tools like Microsoft Sentinel and Defender
Coordinating and following up on penetration tests, and driving remediation of findings
Running and maintaining vulnerability scanning, and tracking action points through to resolution
Managing Mobile Device Management (Intune/Autopilot) across PC, Mac, Android, and mobile devices
Supporting Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and information protection efforts, including evaluating the security of new AI tools
Contributing to documentation, security policies, and internal/external audits
Acting as a close partner to the IT Helpdesk, helping isolate and resolve potential threats quickly
Supporting our Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity work
You'll have plenty of opportunity to shape how we do things — if you see a smarter or safer way to work, we want to hear it.
We think you're someone who enjoys solving problems hands-on, takes ownership of your area, and genuinely cares about doing security well — not just checking a box. You're comfortable working in a 2nd line support capacity, and you like collaborating closely with colleagues rather than working in isolation.
We believe you have:
Solid experience working with IT security in a client, server, or cloud environment
A structured, analytical approach to problem-solving
Strong communication skills, comfortable explaining technical topics to non-technical colleagues
Fluency in English; Swedish is a plus
We'd love it if you also bring experience with:
Cyber security in general
Microsoft Intune
Windows Autopilot
Microsoft Defender
Microsoft Sentinel
Don't worry if you don't check every box above — if you're curious, driven, and eager to grow into the role, we'd still love to hear from you.
This is a full-time, permanent position, preferably based at our head office in Borås, with alternative locations in Stockholm, Malaga, or Szczecin. Hybrid work flexibility is available. You'll report into IT Operations and work in close proximity to our IT Security team and IT Helpdesk, giving you fast escalation paths and strong support from day one.
We believe diverse teams build better solutions, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
If you have any questions about the role, feel free to reach out to our recruiting manager, Robert Lööf, Head of IT Operations
We look forward to hearing from you!
