Location

Role provides the opportunity to work in hybrid environment, working both virtually and in office when required.

What you’ll do (Position Summary)

This is a paid summer internship running from late May through early August. As an IT Security Architecture Intern, you'll get an inside look at how cybersecurity is considered when technology solutions are designed and reviewed. You'll work with a mentor, learn from real examples, and contribute to projects appropriate to your experience and educational background.

Your job responsibilities and projects will be based upon your experience and educational background to provide real life application of your classroom knowledge. You’ll work closely with a mentor to ensure your developmental goals are met and that you meet your performance expectations.

Assignments may include:

  • Learn the role of security architecture within an enterprise cybersecurity program.
  • Observe security architecture and risk review activities and learn the questions architects ask when evaluating technology.
  • Learn how to read architecture diagrams and recognize components such as users, systems, networks, integrations, data flows, and security boundaries.
  • Review existing security reference architecture templates and supporting guidance from the perspective of someone learning to use them.
  • Research common technology and security architecture patterns and summarize what you learn.
  • Compare example designs with documented security requirements or reference patterns under the guidance of a security architect.
  • Help create or improve diagrams, documentation, checklists, summaries, and other reusable security architecture materials.
  • Discuss observations and questions with cybersecurity and technology team members.
  • Document assigned work
  • Communicate technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and deliver a final presentation summarizing your assigned projects, observations, and what you learned during the internship.

What you’ll learn

  • How security architecture reviews fit into technology projects and risk decisions.
  • How architects think about identity, networks, applications, cloud services, integrations, data flows, and security controls.
  • How reference architectures, standards, and reusable patterns can make security reviews more consistent.
  • How to research unfamiliar technologies, ask better security questions, and communicate findings clearly.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Completion of introductory coursework in cybersecurity or information security.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as networking, identity and access, vulnerabilities, encryption, and security controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to research unfamiliar technical topics and communicate findings clearly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio or other Unified Modeling Language Applications (UML)
  • Experience with conversational products
  • Security+ or CyberSecurity Certification
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional cybersecurity coursework, labs, personal projects, competitions, previous internships, research, or other hands-on experience.
  • Familiarity with network, cloud, application, artificial intelligence, or identity security concepts.
  • Exposure to architecture, system, or network diagrams.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks or industry security guidance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and diagramming tools.
  • Curiosity about how complex systems work and how they can be designed more securely.

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place
  • Work surface is stable (flat)
