Job Description

An opportunity exists for a Payroll Lead to oversee the technical management and optimisation of payroll systems, including SAP and ExpressHR.

This role works closely with business and technology stakeholders to ensure system performance, compliance and continuous improvement. The position plays a key role in managing vendors, supporting system enhancements, and ensuring payroll solutions are aligned with business needs and The Downer Standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and support for payroll systems, including SAP Time and Payroll modules
  • Manage incidents, service requests and system issues in collaboration with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Lead testing activities including unit, integration, UAT and regression testing for system changes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver system enhancements and improvements
  • Ensure all changes align with IT change management processes, governance and compliance standards
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure delivery against SLAs and service expectations
  • Support system upgrades, releases, disaster recovery and audit requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, system efficiency and data integrity
  • Maintain accurate system documentation and ensure adherence to IT service management practices
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and Zero Harm culture

What You Will Bring

  • Demonstrated experience supporting payroll systems, ideally SAP Payroll and Time modules
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, system integrations and HRIS environments
  • Experience managing vendors and working within IT service management frameworks
  • Proven ability to lead testing, system changes and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Business, HR or a related field
