Examples of duties

Seven years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus five years of experience in information technology; OR

An associate's degree in information technology plus five years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A master’s degree plus four years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NOTE:

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job Duties:

This newly created IT Manager position will serve as the IT Manager in the System and Support section of the IT Department. This position is responsible for the operational leadership, strategic planning, and continuous improvement of the organization's Helpdesk Support Team and Data Center Operations. This role ensures the stability, security, and efficient of end-user support services and core infrastructure systems.

  • Management Skills – Strong ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others. Conduct regular performance reviews to assess team member performance and provide recommendations for improvement. Strong ability to influence and manage technical teams and have them perform their jobs effectively, and have them take responsibility for making decisions within their own areas.
  • Project Management Skills – Strong ability to manage complex development projects using appropriate project tools to outline risk activities, assigned resources and deadline dates taking into account dependencies and resource availability.
  • Infrastructure Strategy – Strong vision and ability to develop and execute a strategic plan that aligns with the TRSL's goals and objectives.
  • Data Center Operations - Proven ability to understand and support data center operations, including monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Network and Server Management - Proven ability to manage and support network and server infrastructure, including configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Customer Service Skills - Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service, including responding to customer inquiries, resolving issues, and escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Help Desk Software - Proven ability to use help desk software, including ticketing systems, to manage and resolve customer issues.
  • Team Builder – Ability to encourage and lead by example System and user support teams to collaboratively and successfully work towards given goals and deadlines.
  • Coaching and Development – Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas. Ability to identify necessary technical and personal skills that need to be built across the technical teams, ability to identify relevant courses and make these available where possible to the relevant staff.
  • Technical Aptitude – Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information. Ability to share this knowledge with own staff, with other IT staff and with Agency staff at the appropriate level as and when necessary.
  • Creative – Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth within the team.
  • Communication, Oral & Written – Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word in meetings and in writing clearly and concisely.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This vacancy may be filled as a Probation, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty. Current classified permanent status employees may be required to accept a Probational Appointment.

TRSL will consider candidates eligible for full-time work/practical training in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) student status.
