Job Description

Job Purpose

The EDI Lead is responsible for managing and supporting Dana’s global Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment to ensure stable, secure, and reliable trading partner connectivity. The primary objective of this role is to ensure business transactions flow seamlessly between Dana and its customers and suppliers by translating business requirements into effective EDI and B2B integration solutions. This role includes ownership of EDI solution design, architecture, and day‑to‑day technical leadership across ERP systems, integration platforms, and external partners.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

EDI Strategy, Architecture & Design

  • Define, design, and optimize Dana’s global EDI solution landscape, ensuring alignment with business needs and industry best practices.
  • Translate business requirements into end-to-end EDI solutions that align with trading partner specifications and internal ERP processes.
  • Lead the design of end-to-end EDI business and technical processes across regions and business units.
  • Architect, design, and oversee EDI integrations across multiple ERP and enterprise systems.
  • Ensure adherence to and proper use of industry standards, including X12, EDIFACT, VDA, RND, ODETTE, and XML.

Technical Leadership & Hands-On Expertise

  • Provide hands-on expertise in EDI mapping, data transformation, and partner connectivity, making critical design decisions that impact system reliability, recoverability, and performance.
  • Serve as the escalation point and trusted technical advisor for complex EDI and integration issues, guiding team members through solution design and problem resolution.
  • Own and design B2B communication and partner connectivity models, including:
    • AS2
    • OFTP2
    • FTP, SFTP, and FTPS
    • VAN-based communications and partner onboarding approaches
    • Certificate management, encryption, and digital signing

Platform & Integration Management

  • Lead development, optimization, and administration of IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, including:
    • Complex map development and optimization
    • Extended rules and custom logic development
    • Business process modeling and orchestration
    • Robust error handling, retry logic, and recovery patterns
    • Performance tuning and transaction throughput optimization
  • Manage and support Connect:Direct (or similar managed file transfer solutions) for large-volume file movement, scheduling, monitoring, and failure recovery.
  • Evaluate and implement modern integration technologies and patterns where appropriate, while protecting the stability of core EDI platforms.

Operations, Stability & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure the scalability, performance, security, and reliability of the global EDI infrastructure.
  • Oversee EDI operations, including proactive monitoring, incident response, trading partner issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead root cause analysis for complex EDI and integration incidents that span applications, networks, infrastructure, and external partners.
  • Drive permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence of critical EDI failures and disruptions.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience as an EDI functional and technical lead within a complex, global enterprise environment.

  • Functional understanding of business processes supported by EDI, paired with advanced technical integration expertise.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator in large-scale, high-volume environments.
  • Strong expertise in EDI standards (X12, EDIFACT, VDA, RND, ODETTE, XML) and B2B communication protocols.
  • Proven ability to independently design, troubleshoot, and stabilize mission-critical EDI and integration solutions.
