Job Description

We're building aircraft that fly faster, further, and to space.

Hypersonix is an Australian aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing company building hydrogen-powered scramjet aircraft. We work at the bleeding edge of hypersonic technology, delivering aircraft that fly faster, reach further, and open new pathways to space - and we're a small,
highly capable team doing work that genuinely matters.

The Opportunity

As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Hypersonix’ core IT infrastructure. This includes cloud environments, networking, server
infrastructure, and DevOps tooling. You’ll work closely with the Systems Administrator to ensure our environment is secure, reliable, and aligned to business and compliance objectives.

You’ll be comfortable working at pace and to a high quality, ensuring our infrastructure is deployed and maintained using code-driven, repeatable processes. If you’re an experienced Infrastructure Engineer looking for autonomy to deliver on varied and challenging projects in a scale-up environment, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure including servers, networking, and storage across Linux and Windows environments.
  • Establish and grow our Infrastructure as Code practice using Terraform, building repeatable, version-controlled deployment patterns from a largely greenfield starting point.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure lifecycle activities including upgrades, migrations, patching, hardening, and decommissioning, aligned to business growth and compliance requirements.
  • Implement and operate monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery to ensure availability, performance, and data resilience.
  • Provide Level 3 / engineering-level support for infrastructure incidents, including root cause analysis and permanent resolution.
  • Implement security controls aligned to NIST 800-171 r2 and DISP requirements, supporting audits and assessments. Document architectural decisions and operational procedures as you go.
  • Support DevOps tooling and CI/CD pipeline infrastructure (GitLab) to enable engineering workflows.

Life at Hypersonix

We're a 60-person company moving fast in one of the most technically demanding fields in aerospace. The pace is fast, the expectations are high and our environment is constantly evolving. Priorities shift, processes are maturing and the path forward isn't always clear; some days you'll need to find it yourself. The people who thrive here are energised by that — not unsettled by it.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Own problems end to end without waiting for a complete picture
  • Hold technical rigour and program pace simultaneously – without sacrificing either
  • Lead by bringing people with you, not by working around them
  • Stay solutions-focused when the ground shifts.

What you’ll bring

To hit the ground running in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science or related field – or
    equivalent industry experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience in infrastructure, systems engineering, or DevOps roles.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Experience with firewall and network administration.
  • Linux and Windows server administration experience.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Australian Citizen with ability to obtain security clearance.

Bonus points for:

  • Relevant industry certifications (AWS, networking, or security).
  • Experience in defence, aerospace, or regulated industries.

Ready to Fly Faster?

If you want to do the most technically challenging work of your career — and you're honest
with yourself that our environment will enable you to do your best work — we'd
love to hear from you.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary
  • Equity participation
  • Flexible working – we care about output, not hours
  • A team doing genuinely world-class work
  • Real ownership and influence from day one
  • Funded Professional development
  • Confidential Employee Assistance Program

About Hypersonix Launch Systems

Hypersonix Launch Systems builds and operates hydrogen-fuelled scramjet powered autonomous aircraft for a range of government, defence, aerospace, and commercial customers.

The first hypersonic flyer to launch is DART AE (Additive Engineering). DART AE is a 3.5 metre long hypersonic aircraft that is powered by a single SPARTAN scramjet engine and makes significant use of 3-D printed high temperature metal alloys. It uses hydrogen fuel and will fly at Mach 7.

The launch is part of the HyCAT program by the Defense Innovation Unit. Hypersonix was the first company to be selected for the program in March 2023, targeting a first launch for Q1 2026 in the United States.

Hypersonix is revolutionizing hypersonic flight technology with a cloud-based software-as-a-service digital twin. By combining extensive knowledge and data from atmospheric flight tests, this virtual replica accurately predicts real-world outcomes. It allows rapid and repetitive testing of materials, designs, manufacturing techniques and enables global 3D printing of components through secure additive manufacturing.

Hypersonix product road map also includes VISR, a high-speed suborbital Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and rapid airfreight flyer demonstrator as well as Delta Velos Orbiter for small satellite launch in a non-ballistic trajectory.
